Camp Allegheny's Letter to Parents

Camp Allegheny is a Christian Retreat Center and Summer Residential Camp located in the beautiful Laurel Highlands of Southwestern Pennsylvania. God promised, “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.” That is a great promise and a tremendous challenge and, in today’s society, all parents need allies to help point their children in the right direction. For 58 years we have been committed to sharing the good news of Jesus Christ to children and youth, ages 6 through 17. We provide an experiential based Christian camping program on 350 acres of God’s creation.

Camp Allegheny has trained staff who are committed to the physical, mental, and emotional safety of your child while teaching him or her how to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. All of our counseling staff and most of our support staff are certified in First Aid and CPR and we also have a medical professional on site 24 hours a day.

Your camper will stay in a modern lodge equipped with bunk beds in the rooms, restrooms with showers, and common meeting areas. Some of our activities and programs include swimming, a group challenge course, horseback riding, adventure events, sailing and windsurfing, and so much more.

Camp Allegheny’s Christian Wrangler and Pony programs are second to none. Pony campers do not just go for “a ride” on a pony. Throughout their week of camp, they learn proper riding techniques and pony care skills with their pony every day. Our Christian Wrangler campers are in the saddle 2 hours per day and Extended Christian Wrangler campers are riding 4 hours per day. This program allows campers to grow in their faith while learning how to ride and care for a horse; campers are taught how to connect what they learn in the arena to their walk with God.

Our Adventure campers experience the wonder of God’s creation in our local area. Campers will learn basic climbing skills and safety procedures on our indoor climbing wall. They will then have the opportunity to test their newly acquired climbing and rappelling skills at local rock faces. Older campers will experience rock climbing, caving, and white water rafting.

Camp Allegheny’s food service is excellent! The meals are prepared and planned to be well-balanced, nutritious, and tasty. You can read more about our food service in the retreat section of our website by clicking here. If your child has food allergies or other dietary needs, let us know ahead of time and we will work with you to make sure your child has food that is both tasty and healthy for his/ her diet! Camp Allegheny is extremely councious of allergies and other dietary needs!
