Fox Chapel Schools - Exciting and EducationalFor three weeks of October, Camp Allegheny has the awesome opportunity to provide assistance to the Audobon Society in running an amazing and strong Environmental Education program for Fox Chapel Schools in Pittsburgh. This program takes 5th graders from the suburban Fox Chapel School District and immerses them in creation and in history. Gabi Hughes, a staff member the Audobon Society, has been running the outdoor education program at Camp Allegheny for nearly 15 years. She and her staff use the unique qualities of Camp Allegheny to teach the kids about everything from birds, to coal, to Native American and Pioneer history. It is always fun to look through the woods the rest of the year and see their Teepees and Lean-tos, traditionally Native American structures. Camp Allegheny is blessed to do our best in serving the needs of this excellent group. More than a facility, we are proud to provide the school the same high level of hospitality that all of our users have come to appreciate. If you have an environmental education and are looking for a location that can serve your school, give us a call! |

The 3rd Annual Dinner Theater“The Christmas Cookie Caper”, intriguing title and no this is not the name of new spy movie or a newly released book. This is the name of the play that was written by Rev Bill Schmeling for our Third Annual Dinner Theater. The plot involves our two special summer camp counselors, Andy, played by Nathan Saccol and Annie played by Chandra Newell, and a new character, Mitch the Mailman, being played by Bill Schmeling. Folks attending our dinner theater performances will be treated to the memories of some old campfire songs and will surely enjoy listening to new originals such as “Summer Song”, “The Mail Man’s March” and “Christmas Cookies”. The director this year is Rev. Jay Shaffer, pastor at Unity Church of Christ. The 2009 Dinner Theater dates are Saturday, December 12th and Sunday, December 13th. Reservations are necessary. Early registration, in office by Saturday, Nov. 21st is $25.00 per person. Registrations through Nov. 22nd and ending Dec. 7th are $35.00 per person. Please share this information with you church families, your extended family and your friends. This original play is sure to be another crowd pleaser for all those who attend. For those of you who would like to attend our performance but do not care to drive after dark, comfortable overnight accommodations with a continental breakfast will be available for a donation. For more information or to make reservations regarding overnight accommodations please call the Camp office by Monday December 7th. 814-754-4336 or 888-251-0771. |

Camp Allegheny Wrangler Fall LessonsCamp Allegheny Christian Wrangler program began it’s very first fall riding lessons to 4 young ladies. Lessons were provided by Ms. Tabitha Penrod, a certified riding instructor, 2 evenings per week for 8 weeks. The participants learned a great deal about the basics of western riding, tack, horse care and much more. We look forward to expanding the program even further in the spring of 2010. Stay tuned as we continue to expand and improve the Camp Allegheny Christian Wrangler program. |

Good Eatin' - because man can't live on bread alone!“I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:11-13) If anyone ever had a right to complain, it was the Apostle Paul. He endured persecution, beatings, imprisonment, shipwrecks, an unnamed physical torment, and probably martyrdom. Though he wasn’t a wealthy man according to the world’s standards, Paul had the one essential “possession”: an unwavering faith in God, who provided for all his needs. (This scripture lesson was provided for Camp Allegheny's use by The Parent Link.) |
