Counselor Trainings

Like last year, we will be offering trainings for counselors this year. This year, however, we are not requiring every counselor to participate in the training. All counselors who did not participate in a Camp Allegheny training last year must do so this year. Other than that, we will only require training of those counselors with whom there appeared a need for further training from their past participation at Camp Allegheny.

Please inform Camp Allegheny ANY time you have a counselor coming for a training. We will be having them every Sunday provided they are needed. Again, if we are not contacted ahead of time to let us know that a counselor is participating, neither Dennis or I will know to be there. In addition to every Sunday, we will be having a training on May 23, 2009, from 9 AM - 1 PM.

Please be sure that your counselors have attended a training with us. We will not be able to have an untrained counselor caring for campers.

Curriculum Box Activities

A list is completed of all of the Curriciulum Box Activities. The list of activities can be found at http://www.campallegheny.org/support/deans/.They are labele "2009 Curriculum Activities" and "2009 Curriculum Activity List". Grab them off of that page so you know what we have ready and available here on camp!

Summer Staff still Needed

Training starts in just over a month and Camp Allegheny still needs two more staff members. We still need a male counseling staff and a lifeguard. Please keep your eyes, ears, and minds open to who you think may make a great staff member. Our staff so far has shaped up very well and we are excited to get the summer started.

If you know someone that you think would benefit from spending a summer at camp, please direct them to the online application and encourage them to apply. You could even print an application and hand it to them (www.campallegheny.org/jobs/staffapplication.pdf). Quality staff is vital to running a quality program!

Expectations for Specific Activities

With our new manual and with the shortened trainings for returning deans, Camp Allegheny felt that there was a gap to be filled regarding what our expectations are for idnividual activities. As such we have developed a list of activities and simply put our expectations for each individual activity on that list. Please be sure to review that list and know what is expected of you and your campers at any activity included in your schedule. Deans will be receiving that list through email in the next week or so and it will also be posted at http://www.campallegheny.org/support/deans/.

Remember that, for any activity, the attitude of the adult role models around these kids makes all of the difference in the world!

Camp Allegheny Ning

If you've never heard of Ning, I promise that you are not alone. Ning is the newest step in Social Networking websites. This neat little tool allows individuals and organizations to set up their very own social network. This allows the network to be more mature and better regulated than networks like MySpace or Facebook, both of which Camp Allegheny is already on.

Our ning site (http://campallegheny.ning.com) is a social neteork set up for just our adult volunteers and staff! It is a digital place away for our adults to connect with each other and other adults involved at Camp Allegheny. If you have been wary of getting on Facebook or MySpace because of the sheer enormity of it, this network will get you connected without the size and concerns that brings!

Spend some time on our Ning site, and let me (Nate) know what you think of it. There's a lot that I can do with it, I just need to know how to serve you all best with the site!

If you have comments/ questions or would like to be removed from this mailing list, please email nate@campallegheny.org.
